This Sunday, February 26th at 11am, First Lutheran Venice is hosting a special service to commemorate Black History Month. In order to support the work of our sister congregation and to celebrate Black History Month, our own worship service will be kept to 30 minutes so that we can encourage people from First Lutheran Culver/Palms to travel to First Lutheran Venice for the 11am service.
Info about the service: “Join us as we honor the past with a musical tribute to Gospel legend Mahalia Jackson by Carol Brown and other talented Gospel musicians. Our guest preacher will be Kirk Bauer with a message of hope for the future. Brought to you by our REACH ministry (Racial Equality And Connecting Hands). Don’t miss this joyful musical celebration. Refreshments and fellowship will follow.”
The church’s address is 815 Venice Blvd. Venice, CA 90291.
3751 Hughes Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90034

We worship every Sunday at 10am and celebrate communion on the first and third Sundays of each month.
Our Church
We are a community of faith founded on the grace of God. We believe that God the Father created and it was good, but then humanity brought corruption into the world. Rather than give up on his creation, the Father worked to bring salvation and eventually sent Jesus Christ, his Son. It is through the death and resurrection of Jesus that we are given new life and a hope for something greater. We also believe that Jesus sent his Holy Spirit into our hearts to call our faith and hope into action and empower us to love others and share with them the love of the Triune God. We believe this story of salvation is shown in the Holy Bible and summarized in the words of the Apostles’ Creed.
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
If you have any question about our beliefs and practices or any general questions about the Christian faith, please reach out to Matt, our Pastor. We are a member congregation of the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod.
Our Pastor
Matt grew up in the Indianapolis area, earned his bachelor’s degree from Concordia Nebraska, and then received his Masters in Divinity from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri. He began serving at First Lutheran in Culver City in the summer of 2018. Prior to his role as pastor at First Lutheran, he served at a congregation in the Minneapolis area. He and his wife, Sarah, and their two kids love being in Culver City—the weather, the food, the beach, and most of all the people are incredible. They look forward to seeing how Jesus can impact this community.
